Course Objectives:

To enable individuals to: analyse and improve relationships within the team build openness and trust recognise the benefits of teamwork understand techniques to use within developing teams identify barriers to effective teamwork use positive communication to overcome the barriers run and participate productive team meetings take personal responsibility for developing the effectiveness of their team

	Effective and ineffective teams characteristics of good teams team strengths group dynamics Team development the stages of team development joining a new team your comfort zone group norms handling conflict within teams team roles, strengths and weaknesses role negotiation using team strengths developing a successful team Effective communication seeing the 'other' perspective asserting your point of view disagreeing constructively working towards business solutions Handling difficult situations recognising power relationships handling confrontation in meetings eg: - the dominant character - the argumentative person - talkative people Team meetings starting positively defining the 'ground rules' using the agenda to control time keeping the meeting on track listener interaction handling feedback processing the discussion handling questions summarising agreeing action points closing decisively solutions to common team meeting problems Problem solving techniques a structured approach nominal group technique decisions by consensus things to avoid
