Course Objectives:

To enable individuals to: identify the skills associated with effective mentoring build rapport with their mentees appreciate the objectives of a mentoring programme recognise and endorse the benefits of mentoring handle difficult situations motivate their mentees understand the differences between coaching and counselling

	What is mentoring? definitions the people involved the process of mentoring the 'rules' the benefits of mentoring - to the organisation - to the mentor - to the protegé The initial meeting a 4-step model for building rapport listening empathy Coaching identifying the learning 'gap' deciding on a strategy options available coaching opportunities a 6-step approach to coaching Coaching versus counselling what are the differences? principles of counselling active listening empathy techniques questioning techniques developing a plan Difficult situations types of situations possible reactions remaining neutral Motivation research encouraging change working with the mentee's manager

Catalyst will endeavour, with your help and approval, to tailor the course content as much as possible. We can do this by:

Incorporating your organisation's mentoring documentation
Referring to your organisation's policies, guides and procedures
Agreeing pre-course and post-course work
Tailoring exercises and the course manual to suit your requirements
Giving delegates advice on, and time to complete, your documentation

Facilitation:

Whilst delegates learn the theory of mentoring and how the process should work, the emphasis on this course is on the practical, interpersonal skills needed to act as an effective mentee. Delegates practice in a range of one to one situations implementing the techniques studied on this course.
